The Great Hurricane of 1780
About 22,000 people lost their lives in 1780 when the great hurricane created a deadly path across the Caribbean. Revolutionary War soldiers from British and Americans suffered in its wrath. Unfortunately, not much data can be gathered regarding the hurricane itself. However, the worst hit islands were St. Lucia, Martinique, and Barbados. Speculations show that winds must have been at least 200 mph strong. This is considered the most fatal hurricane in history.
