Galveston Hurricane of 1900
If there is one hurricane from the Gulf Coast that created more damage than Katrina that would be the Galveston Storm of 1900. Approximately 6,000 to 12,000 people died. Most of them were residents of Texas. It is by far the worst of its kind in the history of the United States. Storm surges measured up to 20 meters in height. It continued its damaging ways in Oklahoma and Kansas after it destroyed the Lone Star State.
