Gaylord the Camel
Campbell University chose the camel as their mascot. There is a real story behind it. The school founder and president’s name was Dr. James Archibald Campbell. The school buildings caught fire and only one structure was left. A visitor, to urge him on, told him that he is a Campbell so he’s got to put a hump on his back and get to work but the founder thought he said camel. But the thing is, why name it Gaylord?
