1989 The Daulatpur-Salturia Tornado
Three major tornadoes have made this list from Bangladesh. Let’s cap it off by another one that happened in Bangladesh more recently, in 1989. Even before tornado hit, the cities of Daulatpur and Salturia were already reeling from the effects of drought. When the tornado which was estimated to be 1 mile wide hit the areas, it was too quick that most people were not able to escape. In just a few minutes, 1,300 people perished. 12,000 people were injured and 80,000 of them were left homeless. After the tornado, the drought continued to persist and it was even more difficult for them to fully recover.
