Indian Ocean Earthquake 2004
This was a disaster of global scale. It did not just affect a single country. From Sri Lanka to Thailand and South India and even as far as South Africa, the quake was felt along with the tsunami that came after. Although the earthquake itself lasted only for 10 seconds, the resulting tsunami was too strong that it killed 200,000-300,000 people. The reason why it killed that much was because people were not anticipating a tsunami to follow. Some were even seen playing by the shore at the time the tsunami hit. This disaster led to major changes in international disaster response.
