North Korean Famine 1994
This devastating disaster was also named the “Arduous March”. It took place in North Korea from 1994-1998. There was really no exact record for those who died due to famine, but the estimates are at a low of 240,000 to a high figure of 3.5 million. Starvation was widespread throughout the country. Cities and towns that are further from the capital have suffered more as they also received less help. International aid came pouring, but it was stopped by the national government in 2002. Considering the crazy leadership in North Korea, we can only predict what went on, or if the famine has already ceased.
