Aleppo, Syria, Aug. 9, 1138
Pretty much all of Aleppo now is destroyed due to war. In the 1100’s, the same thing happened, but for a totally different reason. A really huge quake (the magnitude of which was not recorded) killed over 230,000 people. Smaller towns where buildings have weaker foundations were left in rubble. The worst part is that there were several other quakes that took place in Syria and Turkey since this huge quake.
