He rose to power in a bloodless coup in 1994. Since then, he has held on to his power until now. He has been in power for over 2 decades and he might not be leaving any time soon. Under his tenure, his country has seen rise of hate crimes, violence, corruption, and other human rights abuses. He is also deemed as a lunatic for having claimed cure to HIV AIDS and for declaring that he will slit the throats of homosexuals in Gambia.
